Enhancing Cherry Blossoms with Pastels

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to enhance cherry blossom photos to achieve a vibrant pastel aesthetic. The foliage will turn to a light pastel green, while the cherry blossoms will take on a bright pink hue.

Step 1: Adjust Color Calibration

Open Lightroom and locate the Color Calibration section. If you don’t see it, click the three-dot menu on the right and select “Show Color Calibration.” This tool is crucial for adjusting the primary color hues and saturation.

In the Color > Color Calibration area:

  • Set the Green Primary Hue to +100.
  • Set the Green Primary Saturation to -100.

The foliage now adopts a pastel color, complementing the cherry blossoms.

If you notice the bridge railings, they’ve gone from red to pink. To fix this

  • Set the Red Primary Hue to +15
  • Set the Red Primary Saturation to +50

Step 2: Enhance Cherry Blossom Pink

Go to the Color > Point Color area and select the eyedropper tool.

to select a light area of the cherry blossom.

  • Drag the Hue Shift to -100 to intensify the pinks.
  • Move the Saturation Shift to +20 for more vibrancy.

Step 3: Adjust the Sky Color

In the Masking area, create a Sky Mask by selecting the Sky button under Create New Mask.

In the color section, drag the hue slider to -30 for a lighter blue shade.

Increase the saturation as desired, setting it to around +30.

Final Results

Congratulations! You’ve successfully enhanced your cherry blossom photo with vibrant pinks and a pastel color scheme. The foliage is now softly pastel, and the sky exudes a trendy teal hue.
